Orakei Peninsula Update

4 Jun 2009
Orakei Peninsula Update
Orakei Peninsula Master Plan has been designed with a relaxed lifestyle in mind, drawing its inspiration from the surrounding landscape to create an environment that’s in complete harmony with the enduring elements of nature – stone, wood and water.

  1. That the City Development Committee recognises:

    1. the importance of the Orakei peninsula as a location for a quality transit-oriented development

    2. the importance of any development being designed to respect and enhance the peninsula's coastal location and volcanic features

    3. the ability under the current zoning provisions (status quo) applying to
    4. the peninsula to build around 80,000m2 of gross floor area
    5. that an integrated master plan will deliver better outcomes for the area and the city rather than the potential for fragmented development under the status quo.

That the City Development Committee notes the strong public support for:

    1. a masterplan approach at Orakei

    2. the Orakei Village concept by Andrew Patterson architects as expressed at a recent public meeting on Orakei

    3. addressing the local traffic concerns.

That the City Development Committee endorses in principle the Orakei waterfront village concept for the Orakei peninsula (attachment two of the report of the Group Manager, City Planning) being developed into a proposed plan change subject to the matters raised by the Orakei Residents Association (height, quality, bulk and traffic) being considered and appropriately addressed.

  2. That the City Development Committee endorses ongoing input by officers into the development of the plan change in order to ensure that the plan
change delivers an integrated high quality transit oriented development for Orakei peninsula.

  3. That a proposed plan change be reported back to the committee in July/August 2009, following the completion of the transport study and the refinement of the concept plan to confirm the quality of design and address transport issues.
